One of the biggest misconceptions about money is that great financial conversations are driven by knowledge.
I don’t think they are.
I think they are driven by energy.
Think about the best conversation you have ever had with someone about your future.
Chances are you walked away feeling lighter…Clearer…More hopeful…More optimistic.
This is not because someone gave you the perfect answer but because they gave you their full presence.
Their curiosity…Their attention…Their energy.
Money is emotional.
Before we discuss portfolios, returns, taxes or estate planning, we are discussing Dreams…Fears…Regrets…Relationships…Purpose.
These conversations require something that no financial model can produce.
Human energy.
Have you ever noticed how the quality of your conversation changes depending on how you show up?
When you’re distracted, clients stay on the surface.
When you’re rushed, they ask smaller questions.
When you’re mentally exhausted, they don’t open up.
But when you are fully present, something remarkable happens.
They begin talking about things they have never shared before.
Their fear of retirement…Their worries about their children…Their guilt around spending…Their dream of starting something new.
The conversation is no longer about money.
It becomes about life.
That is why I have come to believe that one of the greatest investments you can make is not in another fund.
It is in protecting your own energy.
Sleep well…Exercise…Read…Reflect…Take breaks…Create space to think.
Because your energy determines the quality of your thinking.
Your thinking determines the quality of your questions, and your questions determine the quality of the financial decisions (of your clients) that follow.
The best financial professionals don’t simply bring expertise to the table.
They bring calm.
Clarity.
Confidence.
Presence.
Perhaps that is the real secret behind extraordinary money conversations.
People rarely remember every chart you showed them or every number you calculated.
But they never forget how they felt when they were with you and sometimes, the greatest gift you can give another human being is not financial guidance.
It is your undivided energy because that is where the best money conversations begin.
