Though I had not planned this, today’s post will come across as a continuation of last Friday’s Nano “Remove these Knots”. You can call this “serendipity”. In case you are wondering what serendipity means, you have 2 choices. Go to Merriam Webster and figure out OR better yet, read my post “The Serendipity when we take ACTION”, which also reads like a continuation of last Friday’s Nano.
In the previous Nano, I had written about the 3 knots that are holding back our success.
- Distractions
- Inaction
- Limiting Beliefs
Which one do you think is the first and most important (or the toughest one to overcome)? While all 3 are important, I don’t think we need any guesses. The cake goes to “Limiting Beliefs.”
We all have limiting beliefs. There is no one who doesn’t. The key is to recognize that we have them. It is only then can we do something about our limiting beliefs. Jim Kwik, Author of “Limitless” wrote in his book, “I came to discover that my perceived restrictions were not really restrictions. They were merely obstacles I needed to overcome or limitations I needed to unlearn. And when I did, what I could learn to be or do each day became limitless.”
Jim adds further, “Being limitless is not about being perfect. It’s about progressing beyond what you currently believe is possible. Just as you have learned limits from your family, culture, industry, and life experiences, you can unlearn them.”
Many of us believe the circumstances they are in and the path they are on is who they will always be. But there is always a choice.
Jim adds “You can learn to un-limit and expand your mindset, your motivation and your methods to create a limitless life.”
There is a limit that must be released and replaced in one of three areas:
- A limit in your Mindset – you entertain a low belief in yourself, your capabilities, or what is possible.
- A limit in your Motivation – you lack the drive, purpose or energy to take action.
- A limit in your Methods – you were taught and are acting on a process that is not effective to create the results you desire.”
The 3 Ms then are (I have changed the order and made Motivation the first M):
- Motivation (your WHY): the purpose one has for taking action. Ask yourself, “Why are you in this business? Why do you do what you do? Does your why motivate you?” Finding your Why is the key to unleashing your drive and energy.
- Mindset (the WHAT): deeply held beliefs and assumptions about who you are, what you are capable of and what is possible (including how the world works).
Lanny Basham, an Olympic Champion in Rifle Shooting and Author of “With Winning in Mind” writes – “Winning is 90% Mental”. He adds, “I ask people “What’s your game? Golf? Sales? Shooting? Singing? Parenting? Managing? Coaching? What percentage of what you do is Mental?” They have all said that their game is 90% mental. Then I asked them – What percentage of your time and money do you spend on training the mental game? The answers are very similar; very little”.
What about you? Have you realized that your mindset could be limiting your growth? If so, are you spending enough on your mindset?
A certain level of skill is required but all world class professionals have a certain skill level. The difference is how they show up with their mindset. The same goes with financial professionals. 90% of what determines our success is mental too. - Method (the HOW): Your process; Your client experience. How do you do what you do?
What do clients experience when they meet you the first time, the second time and every time? How do you make them feel?
It’s super critical to master this final part. Beyond the process, even something as simple as How you say matters a lot more than what you say.
To become truly limitless in our industry/profession, you have to nail all the 3 M’s. So, where do you begin (you can always ask us )?
The key when you are taking your steps is to have a map, a model of success.
Are you armed with your map, to nail the 3 M’s?
Interested in your customized map? Write to us about the areas you need help with. As always, we look forward to hearing from you.
Finally, I quote J. K. Rowling, who wrote, “We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all of the power we need inside ourselves already.”
You already have all the power you need hidden somewhere deep inside of you. You simply need to learn the 3 Ms to become the limitless real financial professional that your clients need. The world needs you now more than at any point of time in history. Make this financial year (FY22-23) your best ever. We wish you an amazing one.
P.S. I also recommend a simple (and powerful) practice of doing an annual audit of your 3 Ms regularly. Those who do will thank me later.
