Have you ever asked yourself this question: “Why do you really set goals?”
Is it to achieve something or is it to become someone?
Most professionals think it is the former.
Hit a number.
Reach a milestone.
Cross an AUM target.
Build a certain status.
Nothing wrong with any of these things but they are incomplete. American
Entrepreneur and Author Jim Rohn said, “The ultimate reason for setting goals is to entice you to become the person it takes to achieve them.”
Isn’t this powerful? Read it again and digest it this time. This is so powerful that it might change something in you and your life.
Goals are not just outcomes.
Goals are instruments of transformation.
They shape you. They stretch you. They demand a new version of you.
Think about this in your journey as an MFD.
You may set a goal of growing your AUM. But AUM does not grow because you want it to.
It grows because you become better.
Better at understanding clients.
Better at asking the right questions.
Better at building trust.
Better at staying disciplined when markets are not cooperating.
Better at saying no to the wrong things.
The goal is not the prize.
The person you become is the prize.
This is where many people get stuck. They set goals. But they do not change themselves.
Same thinking.
Same habits.
Same conversations.
And then they wonder why nothing changes. Because goals without personal evolution are just wishes.
Real progress begins when you ask a different question.
Who do I need to become to achieve this?
Not what do I need to do.
But who do I need to become?
Do I need to become more patient?
Do I need to become more disciplined?
Do I need to become more client centric?
Do I need to become more honest with myself?
Do I need to raise my standards?
Because in this profession, your growth is a direct reflection of who you are.
Clients do not just buy products.
They buy clarity.
They buy conviction.
They buy trust. All of that comes from the person you have become.
We deeply believe in this.
We do not just focus on goals.
We focus on transformation.
Of founders and financial professionals.
Of teams.
Of thinking.
Because when the person evolves, everything else follows.
Revenue follows.
AUM follows.
Growth follows.
But more importantly, impact follows.
If you are thinking about goals for the new financial year, do not get excited only about achieving them.
Get excited about who you will have to become.
Because that journey is the real game. And that person is your real success.
