I launched this blog in January 2020 with a few posts (Today there are close to 300). One of them was To DO List and To BE List. In case you don’t recollect it, I would encourage you to read it.
Today’s Nano focuses on the 5 Be’s of Leadership as highlighted by Hubert Joly in his book “The Heart of Business.” Hubert was the former CEO of Best Buy and was behind an amazing transformation of Best Buy. Instead of listening to everyone telling him to lay off people to save Best Buy, Hubert found solutions that didn’t require people losing their jobs.
He says in an HBR interview, “Admitting you don’t have all the answers is a strong sign of leadership and putting meaningful purpose at the heart of business is the only way for companies to move forward in hard times (To this I would add ‘good times too’ as the seeds of destruction are sown in good times).”
The 5 Be’s of Leadership then are –
- Be Purposeful (you would have guessed this)
- Be Clear about whom you serve
- Be Conscious of what your role is
- Be Driven by values
- Be Authentic
To this list, I add 2 more – 6th and 7th (Bonuses for you).
Be HappyRich (Be clear about the purpose of money in your life. Have a strong purpose for money in your life. This actually connects to the First Be.)
Be Decisive.
What do you think?
